About Us (Why is it "Us" when it's only me?)

I'm not inclined to talk about myself so I'll keep this short.  Perhaps I'll add a little more over time.

I grew up in Edmonton's inner city before my parents moved to the lovely suburb of Fort Saskatchewan. I'm an University of Alberta alumni - three times over - with a B.Com (Finance), B.Sc (Actuarial Science) and a M.A. (Economics). No, I didn't get those degrees all at once.  After completing my B.Com, I worked here and there before meeting my wife.  Together we started many businesses - some successful, others not so much. Later, we sold those businesses and went back to university.  Whilst at university one of my professors suggested that I teach statistics labs at MacEwan Unversity.  To be honest, I thought she was crazy.  At that time, I had never thought about teaching.  After some prodding (thanks again Giseon Ho), I went over to MacEwan to meet with the Math/Stats Department Chair, David McLaughlin.  David was my kind of crazy, so he gave me my first teaching opportunity (5 sections of Stats 151 labs).  From the very first minute teaching, I knew I had found my calling and I have loved teaching ever since.  I'm now teaching Math and Statistics at the School of Business at MacEwan University where I'll likely teach until security removes me from campus, or they haul my dead carcass out of the building - probably too morbid, I know.  Earning the Distinguished Teaching Award, MacEwan University's highest teaching accolade, was the high point of my teaching career. Even more humbling, over 25 MacEwan students and alumni signed my nomination (during COVID!!). Although, if a university located in a warm climate is looking for a stats instructor........

In case you're curious, I took the above picture after hiking to the peaks high above the Colorado River.
